Madaba Jordan

Madaba, (in Arabic مادبا), is the capital of the Madaba Governorate in Jordan. By population, Madaba is the fifth population of Jordan. It is well known for its mosaics of the Byzantine and Umayyad eras and therefore carries the nickname of City of mosaics. Of special importance is the map of Madaba, mosaic-map of the Byzantine era with the oldest preserved cartographic representation of Jerusalem, Holy Land and the Nile Delta. It dates from the 6th century and is located in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George .
