N'Djamena ist die Hauptstadt und größte Stadt des Tschad. Als Hafen am Fluss Chari, nahe der Mündung mit dem Logone-Fluss, liegt sie direkt gegenüber der kamerunischen Stadt Kousséri, mit der sie durch eine Brücke verbunden ist. Sie ist ein regionaler Markt für Vieh, Salz, Datteln und Getreide. Fleisch-, Fisch- und Baumwollverarbeitung sind die Hauptindustrien, und die Stadt bleibt das Zentrum der wirtschaftlichen Aktivität im Tschad. Es gibt eine muslimische Stadt, es gibt viele Moscheen in der Stadt zu sehen, sowie eine Kathedrale und den Präsidentenpalast. Außerdem gibt es das Nationale Museum des Tschad, ein Nationalmuseum, das viele Artefakte aus seiner Geschichte beherbergt.
