About the property

In the center of New Kiruna, next to the town hall, you'll find the city's most exciting new building. Inspired by Kebnekaise and The Lapponian Gate Scandic Kiruna is the city's new hangout spot. The wilderness meets the city and will become a natural hot spot for both locals and hotel guests. At Scandic Kiruna you'll have a good night's sleep after a long day of exploring. Our 231 rooms are decorated in calm, Nordic colors such as beige and warm rust red tones. The rooms have large glass windows and smart details, suitable for both long and short stays. In our comfortable beds you can relax and fill up on energy for next day's meetings or for new adventures in the great outdoors. The interior design is inspired by the surrounding nature and seasons and with details from the hiking and climbing world. Have a seat in the lobby bar for a few hours of work or enjoy a cup of coffee by the campfire. Maybe the hikers next to you will tell you some breathtaking stories from today's adventures, or you'll start chatting with the group of miners at the bar celebrating the end of their shift. The restaurant is located on the entrance floor. It's reminiscent of a modern climbers base camp and offers delicious and well-cooked food based on local ingredients. Sustainability is a theme throughout the building and applies to food and beverage as well. From the base camp, the hike continues up to the top, to Kiruna's one and only, magnificent sky bar. Take the stairs or the elevator and be greeted by the view over the Swedish mountains. Lean back and admire the beautiful nature, the modern city, and with a little bit of luck you can catch the magical northern lights. Kiruna's sights such as skiing, hiking, shopping and visiting mines are on your doorstep. Take the opportunity to snowmobile around Jukkasjärvi and visit a Sámi farm or go see the famous Icehotel. Welcome to Scandic Kiruna – the new top of Kiruna with a fantastic view!

This hotel is a little pricey but it is convenient with the whole moving the town thing. There isn’t much to do in Kiruna outside of the tours/activities.

Friendly helpful staff. Good dinner in hotel restaurant. Nice breakfast buffet. Spacious attractive lobby. Clean room with most of the things one expects. The free shuttle from the train station stopped across the street from the hotel.

It is a short taxi ride from the Kiruna airport to the Scandia Kiruna Hotel. Once there, I was delighted to find that it was a pleasant walk to a number of shops...groceries, clothing, personal care, etc. The facility, itself, is very clean. The staff is welcoming. Very nice stay!

Wonderful stay. Clean, comfortable room. Restaurant was great. We particularly loved the sauna overlooking the city. Parking was a little hard to figure out - it's across the street, but takes a little to figure out. Also seems like too much light pollution in the immediate area to see the northern lights. Overall pleasant stay.

Information about the area

Kiruna, Sweden
Kiruna is the northernmost and the largest town in Swedish Lapland. It is located about 145 km north of the Arctic Circle, making it possible to experience the midnight sun and polar night there. It is home of the famous Ice Hotel, which changes its looks every year as it is rebuilt by different artists each year. Kiruna Kyrka is a beautiful building and has won prizes for being Sweden's most beautiful building and its tower is artistically adorned. It is one of Sweden's largest wooden buildings and is famous for its special tent like structure. The city hall of Kiruna was inaugurated in 1963. It was once elected as the most beautiful building by Swedish Architects. It houses the local government and often hosts various exhibitions. It also has a small but quite well renowned art collection of famous Swedish artists. In the summertime you can visit the LKAB Iron Mine. You'll descend 540 metres into earth and you will learn about the life at the mine. Kiruna is a perfect base to explore the wilderness and scenery of northern Lapland, including Sweden's highest mountain, Kebnekaise. There are several national parks all within easy reach from the city, including Abisko National Park, one of the most beautiful places in Sweden. Kiruna is a place of contrasts, where the summer sun shines for almost two full months without setting, while the polar night lowers its dark blue blanket over the area for the last three weeks of December. The contrasts are seen also in other ways, for here we find the ancient Saami Lappish crafts and ways, existing side by side with the high-tech that has made Kiruna a unique European research centre.
