Ashgabat Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, known as Poltoratsk, is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan in Central Asia, situated between the Karakum Desert and the Kopet Dag mountain range. The city was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s highest concentration of white marble buildings in 2013. The city gained many high rise buildings when they exited the Soviet Union. In the process, Ashgabat adopted modern construction techniques and many of the buildings have been made of marble. The city is home to one of the largest mosques in Central Asia: the Kipchak mosque also known as the ‘Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque’. The mosque has generated controversy because it has scriptures from both the Holy Quran and the Ruhnama (Book of Soul).
