Basra Iraq

It is the second largest city in Iraq, with a population of approximately 3,800,200 inhabitants. It is the main port of the country, located in the vicinity of the Persian Gulf and 545 km south of the capital, Baghdad. It has an international airport, since Iraqi Airways, the most important airline in the country, has recently restored the connection with Baghdad. It is located in a fertile agricultural region, the main products are rice, corn, rye, wheat and dates. Also, petroleum resources are important. The Muslims in the area are mostly to the jafari sect of Shiism. There are also many Sunnis, as well as a small group of Christians. Mandeanism survives in the area formerly called Suk esh-Sheikh. The network of channels that recorded the nickname of 'the Venice of the Middle East'. In Thousand and One Nights is the port where Sinbad the Mariner departs from.
