Lens is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. It is one of France's large Picarde cities along with Lille, Valenciennes, Amiens, Roubaix, Tourcoing, Arras, and Douai. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • The Louvre-Lens art museum, a branch of the Louvre in Paris, exhibits works of world importance • The Stade Félix-Bollaert stadium was built in 1933 to promote sport amongst the local people and it is the main football arena in Lens. • The Lens Railway Station is a French National Heritage Site built as an Art Deco ‘statement’ to look like a steam locomotive. • The Maison Syndicale on Rue Casimir Beugnet has historical documents and various artefacts relating to Lens’ mining history explaining its importance on the development of the area.
