Nanjing, historically also Nanking, is the capital city of Jiangsu Province. It has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture, having been the capital of China for several periods. Surrounded by an impressive Ming dynasty city wall, Nanjing is one of China’s most attractive and livable cities, offering plenty of historical sites and other tourist attractions and activities. In Nanjingyou can visit the Ming City Walls. Some 35 kilometers of fortifications were ordered to be erected in the capital by Ming’s founder Zhu Yuanzhang between 1366 and 1393, or the Memorial Hall of Victims in Nanjing Massacre, which is a museum and memorial spot for the most shocking incident in Nanjing history: a six-week killing spree carried out by the Japanese Army during World War II. Other fantastic tourist attraction in this city is the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. In the 1960s Communist China proclaimed its ability and ambition for modernization through this double-decker rail-road bridge.
