About the destination: Chennai, formerly known as Madras, this 369-year-old city is the capital of the southern state of Tamilnadu and is India's sixth-largest city. It serves as one of the main gateways to South India and has a thriving local culture and art scene and is one of the major destinations for medical tourism. It is on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal and has the second longest beachfront of any municipality in the world. Chennai is both an orthodox and a modern cosmopolitan city; the culture of the city reflects its diverse population. The traditional arts, music, dance and all other art forms of Tamilnadu grow and flourish here. The food is a unique blend of traditional, to fast foods and filter kaapi. One of the main attractions are the Botanic Gardens, which includes the superb Orchid garden that is beautifully landscaped and has a great variety of orchids. There are some fascinating ethnic areas such as Little India, Arab Street, Chinatown and Geylang. These areas are definitely worth visiting if you want to experience some real Singaporean culture. Other attractions include world class museums, stunning colourful shops, Marina bay and lush parks. Besides the shopping, Singapore has great food. Being home to various ethnic groups, Singapore has created a wonderful mix of flavors and textures in their cuisine. Kuala Lumpur is a city of contrast, a combination of modern, cosmopolitan and old world charm. Old colonial buildings, temples, minarets and domes blends well against a backdrop of skyscrapers. The Petronas Twin Towers, one of the world’s tallest buildings, dominates its skyline yet the feeling of old world charm still lingers at the older part of the city. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Straits of Malacca and Muarthe Royal City. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the south. The capital is Malacca City. Batu Pahat. This historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Baba and Nyonya Peranakan Museum. • Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. Oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia and has an inscription dating 1685 commemorating the deeds of by Kapitan China Li Wei King. • Christ Church • Dutch Square. Beautiful Square around Christ Church and the Stadhuys. On this square you will find the Tang Beng Swee Clock Tower. • Jonker, Heeren and adjacent streets. This is the residential heart of Old Malacca just west of the Malacca River, with its narrow winding streets, beautifully decorated houses, tiny shops, temples and mosques. • Malaysian Navy Museum. • Malay and Islamic World Museum. It also currently houses a Museum of Torture for a limited duration on the ground floor.
