After breakfast, we will begin a hike into the deep forest. Along the way, we will cross the riparian forest to the higher forests, then descend to the floodplain forests, and then climb to the forested hills. During the journey, you will identify species of fruit, forest, and medicinal trees that support animal and human populations in the Amazon forests. Among them are the aguaje, mahogany, cashew, catahua, cedar, cético, copaiba, and shihuahuaco. With luck and silence, you may observe large mammals such as the tapir and peccary, rodents such as the capybara, pacarana, paca, and armadillo, primates such as the howler monkey and lion tamarin, reptiles such as the iguana and turtle, amphibians such as the toad, and birds such as the tinamou, partridge, golden parrot, and blue, yellow, and red macaw. In the rainforest, you will enjoy insects such as butterflies (lepidopterans), beetles, crickets, cicadas, ants, centipedes, and millipedes of different species. We arrive at the majestic Apu Victor Lake surrounded by large swamps and giant trees. From the Amazonian viewpoint (a huge observation platform), you will enjoy a panoramic view of the lake, observing parrots, macaws, toucans, jacamars, ibises, herons, and other animals such as caimans, turtles, etc. Varieties of fish enter Apu Victor Lake with the flooding of the rainy season. Breakfast at the lodge COCHA PERDIDA: After breakfast, we will start an adventure in the virgin jungle, accompanied by our local guide. We will hike into the deep forest, through well-maintained trails of our interpretive circuit. Along the way, we will cross temporary rivers called "Caños" via well-maintained bridges and witness a wide range of wild flora and fauna species. We will discover a great variety of ornamental plants of unparalleled beauty. On the way to Cocha Perdida, we will identify species of fruit, forest, and medicinal trees that support animal populations in the Amazon forests. With a bit of luck, we may see large mammals such as the jaguar or the otorongo, the tapir and peccary; rodents such as the giant otter, capybara, pacarana, and armadillo; primates such as the howler monkey and tamarin; reptiles such as the iguana and anaconda; amphibians such as toads; and birds such as the mountain turkey, partridge, golden parrot, and red, blue, and yellow macaw. The rivers leave behind wetland systems, lakes, cochas, and meanders, like the spectacular Cocha Perdida. Wetlands play a crucial ecological role, as they are a key biological focus with endemic species and serve as a refuge for mammals. Aguajales constitute seventy percent of the area protected and restored by the Eco Amazonía Lodge. The presence of the aguaje is very important for Amazonian peoples. It is a mysterious plant, the mother of the forest, or the tree of life. Aguajales host vigilant guardians such as the jaguar, considered the son of the aguajal, the anaconda, the largest snake in the world, the owl that watches everything from its perch high in the tree, and the black caiman guardian that punishes anyone who dares to cut down the female aguajales. Once we arrive at Cocha Perdida, we will climb to a huge observation platform. From here, you can admire the immensity of this magical place where you can observe two types of aguajales: dense and mixed. Then, we will take a pleasant walk around Cocha Perdida and, if you are lucky, you can see the "Giant Otter" Pteronura brasiliensis, the largest of its kind and one of the most impressive animals in the Amazon. Return to the lodge and included lunch. Afternoon at Leisure: The afternoon is free to take photos around the lodge, visit the botanical garden, and observe our medicinal and fruit plants.
