Aschgabat, Turkmenistan

Aschgabat, früher bekannt als Poltoratsk, ist die Hauptstadt und die größte Stadt Turkmenistans in Zentralasien, gelegen zwischen der Karakum-Wüste und dem Kopet-Dag-Gebirge. Die Stadt wurde 2013 in das Guinness-Buch der Rekorde als die Stadt mit der weltweit höchsten Konzentration an weißen Marmorgebäuden aufgenommen. Die Stadt erhielt viele Hochhäuser, als sie die Sowjetunion verließen. Dabei übernahm Aschgabat moderne Bautechniken und viele der Gebäude wurden aus Marmor errichtet. Die Stadt beherbergt eine der größten Moscheen in Zentralasien: die Kipchak-Moschee, auch bekannt als die 'Turkmenbashi Ruhy Moschee'. Die Moschee hat Kontroversen ausgelöst, da sie Schriften sowohl aus dem Heiligen Koran als auch aus der Ruhnama (Buch der Seele) enthält.
