Met een landelijk achterland van grasrijke weiden en met sneeuw bedekte bergen die zichtbaar zijn vanuit het stadscentrum, is Dushanbe (ДУШАНБЕ) een heerlijke stad gebouwd rondom parken, meren en fonteinen. Met het hectische bouwproject van het afgelopen decennium grotendeels voltooid, heerst er een voelbare sfeer van tevredenheid in het stadscentrum. De grote platanenboulevard, Rudaki, slingert langs pastelgekleurde overblijfselen uit het Sovjettijdperk en net zo trots langs de moderne iconen van de staat. Het belangrijkste hiervan is het gouden standbeeld van de 10e-eeuwse Ismoil Somoni, dat over het Vriendschapsplein heerst, representatief voor het gevoel van renaissance dat het huidige tijdperk kenmerkt, zowel in Dushanbe als in Tadzjikistan als geheel.
