Ashgabat, conosciuta come Poltoratsk, è la capitale e la più grande città del Turkmenistan in Asia centrale, situata tra il deserto del Karakum e la catena montuosa Kopet Dag. La città è stata inclusa nel Guinness dei primati come la più alta concentrazione mondiale di edifici in marmo bianco nel 2013. La città ha guadagnato molti grattacieli quando sono usciti dall'Unione Sovietica.
